Project name: Environment friendly control of Voles in alfalfa crops by using light
Principal researcher name: Prof. Haim
Invention area: Agriculture
Voles Produce during winter (less light- short days) and cause great damages to the agriculture. Voles feed near the hole they live in.
The population can grow fast causing significant loses to farmers
In the past- chemicals were used to control the population, however, today a great effort is made to avoid unnecessary chemical that can find their way to human's food.
By using a special light system, the researchers were able to significantly reduce the number of voles, compared to the control group.
Using light to control vole population offers the advantageous of a cheap and eco-friendly system that is not dependent on chemicals, allowing for a safe control.
